There are certain team sports that almost all of us have tried. These certainly include soccer, handball, basketball, and other ball games. If asked whether they’ve ever played cricket, however, probably not many people would answer in the affirmative. And yet this fascinating sport is considered the second most popular team sport in the world. An incredible 120 million players participate in it across nearly every country on the planet. Perhaps this sport hasn’t made its way onto regular playing fields as much due to its rather complex rules. Some of them are quite interesting, and sometimes they’re more like a joke. In fact, there are rules even for situations where an animal, a wall, or another object interferes with the game.It probably comes as no surprise that the history of this sport dates back to the sixteenth century, when it began to be played on vast pastures in the county of Surrey (England) during the reign of the Tudor dynasty. The sport became so widespread in England that by the 18th century it had even become the English national sport, and the first international match was played as early as the mid-19th century. Cricket’s popularity spread beyond England’s borders and reached many countries around the world. It also became the national sport in India and Pakistan. The differences between cricket and baseball are significantCricket is sometimes confused with a similar sport, baseball. To the untrained eye, it may seem at first glance that these are identical or at least very similar sports. This is not the case. If we could place both games side by side, we would see differences primarily in the uniforms and stances of the individual players. The layout and shape of the playing field are also different. While cricket is played on an oval, baseball requires a diamond-shaped field. The appearance of the ball is also different. A cricket ball is usually red and made of leather pieces. At first glance, it is smaller than a baseball. A cricket ball is also relatively harder, smaller, and heavier than a baseball.
